The Cancer Center Business Summit was co-founded in 2007 by Michael Blau, Partner, Foley & Lardner LLP and Ron Barkley, President, CCBD Group. As pioneers in the business of cancer delivery, they were determined to establish a thought leadership program where leaders in oncology could meet and share ideas. The Cancer Center Business Summit launched its first annual meeting in Chicago in the fall of 2007, featuring case studies of successful community cancer care delivery, both independent medical group models and hybrid hospital-practice combination models as well as diving into other programs such as the 340B Drug Pricing program, a federal program which enables qualifying hospitals (and certain other providers) to acquire drugs at markedly reduced purchase prices.

Since then, the Summit has served as the leading thought leadership forum and annual conference on matters of policy, business strategies, business models, hospital alignment, and best business practices in community oncology. Summit content and speaker selection is guided by a National Cancer Center Business Summit Advisory Board consisting of 35 prominent thought leaders in the clinical, business, and policy aspects of the delivery of community cancer care.

As of 2017, the Summit is conducted as a joint program with the annual meeting of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), which has allowed the combined ACCC-Summit focuses on Business, Technology, and Policy issues in the delivery of cancer care services.
