Business Solutions
for Providers of Cancer Care

John E. Hennessey, MBA

Mr. Hennessy is a consultant in the oncology practice environment with more than 15 years’ experience in community and academic settings. He served as the Vice President of Health Affairs with Sarah Cannon Cancer Services, focusing on best practices and operational excellence in health reform efforts in oncology and the broader healthcare arena. He was also responsible for the collaboration of physicians, leadership teams and staff in several HCA oncology markets, to ensure operating objectives and results are aligned with the overall cancer enterprise strategies.

Mr. Hennessy was the Executive Director of the Kansas City Cancer Centers, a US Oncology Affiliate, as well as the Executive Director for the Community Cancer Program of the University of Kansas Hospital.  KCCC was one of the first oncology practices in the country to develop and adopt clinical pathways and was a leader in the development of US Oncology’s Innovent Oncology product.  KCCC was a high performing practice in revenue cycle and operational excellence, with a keen focus on Lean/SixSigma techniques and workflow design.  KCCC integrated medical oncology, hematology, blood and marrow transplantation, radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, hematopathology and interventional radiology within the practice.

Mr. Hennessy has extensive experience in managed care from both the payor and provider perspectives, including performing a strategic product redesign, inclusive of provider network and compensation restructuring, to integrate otherwise functionally separate group health and workers compensation programs into a functioning “24-hour care” benefits plan from both a group health and a property and casualty perspective.

John holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.  He is an ASCO member and a member of the Clinical Practice Committee Practice Administrator Work Group, and is a reviewer for the Journal of Oncology Practice. John worked on the Payment Reform Task Force that developed the Patient-Centered Oncology Payment (P-COP) alternative payment model proposed by ASCO. Mr. Hennessy is an active member of the Community Oncology Alliance's Oncology Medical Home Implementation Committee. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Young Survival Coalition.
